Perth International Jazz Festival

As Winter approaches, keep warm and active at the Perth International Jazz Festival Friday 26 May - Sunday 28 May 2017, or the Fremantle Heritage Festival Friday 26 May - Monday 5 June.

These events are sure to get your blood pumping, with fun for the whole family. Let's explore what's on offer, as Winter is coming.

Perth International Jazz Festival

Are you looking for all that jazz Perth? Well you've come to the right place! For the fifth consecutive year, this three-day festival will heat up your soul. Presented by Brookfield, in conjunction with Lotterywest and the City of Perth, you could enjoy numerous free events and pop up teasers. Keep an eye out for these at Brookfield Place (Café Court), St George's Cathedral and Four Points by Sheraton, in addition to the ticketed performances available at Brookfield Place, The Palace, The Ellington Jazz Club, and in a first for the event, the town of York in the Avon Valley. Visit here for more information, and a link to buy tickets.

With over 40 incredible jazz performances and the toast of local, national and international jazz legends, these artists from New York to Switzerland, Brazil and Japan will make your heart sing. From Quartets to Strings, crooners to big bands, you'll be struggling to choose - so don't hold back. These groups, including WAAPA Jazz will have you mesmerised. But there's also some CD launches to reminisce.

Whether you recognise names like saxophonist and composer Will Vinson (New York City, USA); pianist and composer Steve Newcombe (Queensland, Australia); vocalist Vivan Sessoms (New York City, USA); or bassist and composer Rafael Jerjen (Basel, Switzerland) - you will soon remember them! Or support local Perth talent like Adrian Galante and the Mia Simonette Quintet on Friday 26 May, or Bean Bumas's Boys of Rhythm, Ali Bodycoat Quartet, James Flynn Quartet, Victoria Newton, Pretzel Logic, and Howie Morgan on Saturday 27 May.

So, whether it is a Day Pass, Weekend Pass or specific talent you are after, indulge your senses and expand your horizon, as a mix of cultures are served to Western Australia in great settings. Stay the night and make a short break of if too! And for a taste of history, make a weekend of it, and explore venues such as the York Town Hall, Settlers House and Castle Hotel. Even if jazz is not your thing, you can't help but swing, as these great locations combined with heart felt renditions and passionate or haunting performances will stir your emotions.

There is something for everyone in this well ranked and awarded annual event - so what's not to love? Don't miss out! With tickets from around $30 to $40, it's a small price to pay for memories that will last a lifetime. Jazz up your weekend, and treat yourself to some intimate and great live gigs to light up your spirit. Plus, check out Heritage Square at Brookfield Place for free entertainment from 4pm - 6:30pm Friday 26 May, or St George's Cathedral Saturday 27 May from 1:30pm - 4pm. Make the most of this chance to survey the talent available at the Perth International Jazz Festival.

Fremantle Heritage Festival

The Fremantle Heritage Festival starts at 9am on Friday 26 May and runs until 9pm Monday 5 June. This annual community event brought to you by the City of Fremantle will celebrate its 25th year, and there's a lot to be thankful for, as the rich tapestry of Fremantle can be explored and enjoyed, from the historic past to recent additions. You will be spoilt for choice with a timetable that spreads across venues including but not limited to the WA Maritime Museum, Bathers Beach, the Fremantle Town Hall, Little Creatures Brewery, Notre Dame University, the Fremantle Prison, Fremantle Cemetery, the Round House, the Whalers' Tunnels, the Esplanade Hotel by Rydges, J Shed, the National Hotel, Guildhall, Esplanade Reserve and many more.

You will find a festival full of fun for the whole family. Whatever your taste or budget, there are options not to be missed, so see what's on offer here with a link to the full itinerary and ticket costs (if any). Whether it is a tour or free quiz night at Little Creatures, the 30th anniversary dinner event of the America's Cup defence, or a free special event Red Dogs and Bushrangers: Keynote Address, presented by film maker Nelson Woss – be sure to reserve your position.

There's heritage and history tours, vintage shopping, luncheons, re-openings, free workshops, silent auctions, a free film screening, walking tours, a murder mystery dinner, concerts, campus tours, high tea, art exhibitions, talks, prison tours, orchestras, archeology and more - for often as little as a gold coin donation. You can't go wrong! So, whether it is educating whilst entertaining the kids, or grabbing your crew for a top night out, the Fremantle Heritage Festival will not disappoint.

A number of these events are even free, but tickets are essential to secure your spot, with over 60 odd various options to suit your style.
