Drawing inspiration from Western Australia's most dramatic landscapes, FORM Gallery presents new works from painter Gian Manik and photographer David Charles Collins from 12 June - 26 September.
Midcareer artists Gian Manik and David Charles Collins established their practices in Perth before moving to Melbourne and Sydney respectively. In 2016 arts organisation FORM invited both artists to return to Western Australia and undertake residencies in two of the State's remote regions.
Collins was commissioned to create a new body of botanically-themed works in conjunction with the Ravensthorpe Wildflower Festival in late 2016. His resulting photographic series, Wild Silence documents the iconic orchids of the southern Goldfields-Esperance region.
Manik spent three weeks in the remote Pilbara during April 2017, developing new paintings inspired by his surroundings. This included a spectacular 10 meter long canvas, What's Your Name. It's a Symbol. Don't Talk, created in collaboration with highschool stduents from South Hedland.
The artists' resulting solo exhibitions at FORM Gallery premiere the first major bodies work each of them has shown in Perth since leaving their home state.
