Delve deep into paintings, prints and drawings from more than 100 years of artistic practice in this exhibition paying homage to Australian art, presented by the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery from the Cruthers Collection of Women's Art from 22 July - 23 September.
Drawing from the Cruthers Collection of Women's Art, Country and Colony weaves stories of land, body and industry into a multi-faceted exploration of the Australian experience.
Showcasing a number of recent acquisitions, Country and Colony features work from contemporary artists across Australia, including Thea Costantino, Julie Dowling, Raquel Ormella, Linda Syddick Napaltjarri, and Judy Watson, set in dialogue with a bush landscape in watercolour by Emma Minnie Boyd, artist and matriarch of the Boyd dynasty.
Through echoes, parallels and juxtapositions, these works address the histories and ongoing consequences of colonisation that unite and divide Australians.
