Chittering Valley

Chittering Valley

Nestled in the northern hills of the Darling Range and only one hour from Perth, you'll find the Chittering Valley - rich in food, wine, scenery and art.

Just one hour from Perth, the Chittering Valley is home to the quaint townships of Bindoon, Muchea and Wannamal, the Chittering Valley offers untouched bushland and wetlands, vineyards, orchards, spectacular wildflowers and stunning scenery.

Take one of the many drive and walk trails that meander through the Valley with sculptures, wineries, orchards, markets and roadside stalls selling seasonal fresh produce along your way. The area is also well known for its vast olive tree plantations.

The Chittering Valley is the perfect day-trip or short-break destination - stay overnight at a farmstay, bed & breakfast, guest house or cottage.

  • ENJOY a picnic at one of the many lovely parks
  • SEE the wildflowers in spring at the annual Chittering Wildflower Show

With its temperate Mediterranean climate and rich soils you can sample some wonderful fresh produce such as citrus fruits, olives, honey, wines and all manner of tasty organic treats. The annual Tastes of Chittering festival in spring is the culmination of all of the region's delicious local produce.

The Taste of Chittering, held on the fourth Sunday in August each year, showcases all things Chittering in one place on one day and weekend markets are held on the fourth Sunday of each month. You can enjoy a tour of the working orchards and take home freshly picked fruit during the citrus or fruit season.

For several months of the year the aroma of orange blossom is the backdrop of the town of Bindoon and mandarins, oranges and lemons are sold from roadside stalls. At other times of the year avocados, mangoes and pumpkins are available, freshly picked by the farmer.

A great journey through this region is the Chittering Valley Wine Trail. This 76 km looping passage takes you through the rural settlements of Bullsbrook, Bindoon, Gingin and Muchea and puts you directly in the path of seven world class wineries.

Small family-owned vineyards produce Verdelho, Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz available at cellar doors throughout the region.

Just as appealing as the culinary delights, are the region's scenic wonders. The trail winds its way through the heart of this pretty region, past hills cloaked thick with forest, through deep valleys and over high hill-tops.

Visiting the wineries is a fantastic way to sample premium wines made from the characteristic grapes of the region with each winery offering their own unique character and style to their produce.
